PATCH WORK

ABOUT:  To make a piece of patchwork, many small patches are sewn together.  Too thick, too thin, or easy to fray fabrics are not suitable for this fabric.  Take medium weight plain weave cotton fabrics and wash them for pre shrinking and removal of starch(for new cloths).

Use cotton sewing thread or mercerized No.30-50 cotton thread(for matching purpose, you can use silk sewing thread and embroidery floss).

Make actual-size patterns with cardboard or plastic sheet.
Place cardboard patterns on wrong side of fabric and trace around each pattern accurately, leaving space between patterns twice as wide as seam allowance.

Piecing is the most traditional method to sew together.  Time and care must be required, but you may have a neater finish.
